A doorknob of a Kender, a bum off the street, my dog, it was horrible. Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ax Norman?Īnyone. ![]() Always entertaining and escapist without taking itself too seriously. Some compare it to Tolkien, we don't need to go that far, but it was a great ride none the less. The Dragonlance Saga was what I read as a youth and it sparked my imagination in many areas. The story has always captivated me as it has some epic lines in it. Hickman and Weis, YES, Norman? I'd have to think really hard about it. Would you try another book from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and/or Ax Norman? Norman is the WORST narrator I have ever heard. ![]()

Upon arrival, he meets his roomate, Felix, and finds an old photograph in his desk. Perfect place for college prep, right? Dan’s inner dialogues usually consist of wondering if he’ll make friends. The setting: New Hampshire College Summer Prep school hosted at Brookline a retired mental health facility and historical site. The main character of the story is Daniel Crawford a typical teenager dealing with the usual adolescent tribulations of fitting in, making friends, and the occasional break out. Creepy enough for this (almost) 29 year old to jump at night when I hear my stairs creak! You know, a quick read, a weekend read.Ī quick read is exactly what Asylum was for me. ![]() Other times, I just need a book that I can zone out with. The kind where you really have to think what’s going on in the story. ![]() ![]() Occasionally I’ll enjoy harder books with a harder vocabulary. As far as books and writing go for me, I’m kind of all over the place, it really depends on what kind of a mood I’m in. Now, those are the MAIN stories, it looks as though there are in-between stories as well that you’ll have to check out.Īs far as the writing goes for Roux, it’s very laid back and easy. All of this is offputting to the narrator, who describes the people as having the "Innsmouth look", "queer narrow heads with flat noses and bulgy, stary eyes". The second chapter details his ride into Innsmouth, described in great detail as a crumbling, mostly deserted town full of dilapidated structures and people who look just a bit odd and who tend to walk with a distinct shambling gait. While he waits for the bus that will take him to Innsmouth, he busies himself in the neighboring town of Newburyport by gathering information from local townsfolk all of it with superstitious overtones. He proceeds to describe in detail the events surrounding his initial interest in the town (antiquarian and architectural) which lies on the route of his tour -taken when 21 - across New England. In the first chapter, the narrator begins by recounting to the reader of a secret investigation that was undertaken by the government at the ruined town of Innsmouth, Massachusetts, and that the story told to them by the narrator himself is the reason for this investigation. ![]() ![]() ![]() "You do get all the critters - bears, elk, snakes," he says.
